Submit for Publication
The Warren Journal of Theology accepts unsolicited manuscript submissions for its General Issue, published on a rolling basis. Acceptance is selective, and prospective authors are strongly encouraged to review our scope and recent publications prior to submission.
The Warren Journal of Theology welcomes original, rigorous scholarship in biblical studies, systematic theology, historical theology, philosophy of religion, and related disciplines.
The Warren Journal of Theology is a publication of the Warren Theological Foundation, an independent research initiative committed to advancing serious theological scholarship in service of both the church and the academy. The journal seeks work that is intellectually responsible, textually grounded, and attentive to the enduring questions of Christian theology. While the journal is broadly situated within the historic Christian tradition, it is intentionally interdenominational in its engagement and welcomes contributions from scholars working across traditions who demonstrate careful reasoning and substantive engagement with the field.
Submissions should advance a clear and defensible thesis, demonstrate meaningful interaction with primary sources and relevant secondary literature, and exhibit both analytical precision and clarity of expression. The journal is written for a graduate-level audience and values work that combines scholarly rigor with readability.
Submission Guidelines
All manuscripts must conform to the following requirements:
Submissions must be original, unpublished work and may not be under review elsewhere
Manuscripts should generally be between 5,000–8,000 words, inclusive of footnotes; longer submissions may be considered at the editor's discretion
Submissions must include an abstract of no more than 140 words
A list of 4–6 keywords should accompany the abstract
All manuscripts must follow the Chicago Manual of Style / Turabian
Citations should be presented as footnotes
Biblical references and primary sources may be cited parenthetically where appropriate
Greek and Hebrew text should use standard Unicode fonts and be transliterated and translated
Submissions must be formatted and submitted as a Microsoft Word document (.docx)
Authors should include a brief biographical statement (100 words or less) and email
Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements or fall outside the scope of the journal may be declined prior to external review.
Review Process
The editorial and peer review process proceeds as follows:
Initial Editorial Review
Upon submission, the manuscript is reviewed by the editorial team to assess its alignment with the journal's scope, scholarly quality, and adherence to submission guidelines.
Blind Peer Review
Manuscripts that pass initial screening are anonymized and submitted to two or more peer reviewers with relevant subject expertise. The review process is double-blind.
Evaluation Timeline
Reviewers are typically asked to return evaluations within 4–6 weeks, though timelines may vary depending on the subject matter and reviewer availability.
Editorial Decision
Based on reviewer feedback, the editorial team will issue one of the following decisions: Decline · Revise and resubmit · Accept with substantial revisions · Accept with minor editorial revisions.
Author Notification and Revision
Authors will receive reviewer feedback along with the editorial decision. Where revisions are requested, authors will be given guidance and a timeline for resubmission.
Final Acceptance and Publication
Accepted articles are published upon final approval and editorial preparation. Articles may be released on a rolling basis and later incorporated into a formal issue.
